Who We Are

LEMA was founded in June 2019 by Leandro Martins Alves, a long-time executive of multinational corporations such as Petrobras and Banco do Brasil.

Leandro worked for Petrobras between 2016 and 2019, where he acted at an Executive Advisory role to the company’s CEO. In this role, he was responsible for the government relations activities at the firm, including negotiating matters related to Petrobras’ business plan and strengthening the company’s institutional image.

Leandro began his career at Banco do Brasil. Between 1982 to 2013, he held various senior executive roles in Brazil and in the United States. For instance, at Banco do Brasil, he occupied the positions of Executive Vice President (EVP) of Credit, Credit Recovery & Human Resources, Managing Director of Government Relations, and Head of the bank’s North American and Central American Operations.

Leandro acted in senior executive roles at several of Banco do Brasil’s subsidiaries. He is the former CEO and Vice-Chairman of BB Americas, an FDIC-insured bank headquartered in Miami, Florida. He also acted as the CFO of Companhia de Seguros Aliança do Brasil, a life insurance company, and as the Chief Commercial Officer of BrasilPrev Seguros, an insurance company focused on providing private pension plans in Brazil. 

Upon retiring from Banco do Brasil, he served as a Managing Director of Desenvolve SP, the financial development agency for the State of São Paulo. He subsequently took on the CEO role at INFRA Asset Management, a private asset management company based in São Paulo.

Leandro graduated from the University of Brasília with a BS in Civil Engineering. He holds an MBA from the University of São Paulo.
